Axe head -"Flint" - Stone Age

Title

Axe head -"Flint" - Stone Age

Subject

The Stone Age: Men leant to make tools and weapons of stone, and some of these have been found in the fields of Cawston. They also learnt to build huts to weave cloth, and to grow crops , They banded together to hunt wolves, wild boars, and other fierce creatures.
Norfolk flint was particularly good for "knapping" into axes and knives, flint was mined near Thetford, at "Grimes' Graves", The axe shown in the picture was found in Cawston.
After many more centuries men began to settle in villages instead of living as nomads . We believe that several families probably lived not far from where our Church now stands, in a clearing on the slopes to the East of the stream we call Salle Beck.
